Life can be hard on us sometimes.
Pushing down. Holding us back. Keeping us stuck.
But you know what’s worse? The way we treat ourselves.
We get up each morning, take a gulp of coffee and get on with it.
Putting ourselves on hold, so that we can keep the wheels of the world turning. Our home. Our job. Our economy.
They all need something from us. And so we give.
Here’s the thing. We’re hard on ourselves, not because we aren’t kind people. But because we have so much to get done.
Pushing our bodies. Holding our breath. Keeping a smile on our face.
While we just keep going harder.
Now I know that self care might sound like a luxury you can’t afford.
There are bills to pay (“Why do my insurance rates keep going up!?”)
There are people to please (“Why can’t people just give me a break!?”)
There are tasks to complete (“Why is my list getting longer?!”)
But your body is going to give up eventually. Your mind will get fuzzy. And you will hit a wall.
Call it exhaustion, overwhelm or pure and utter destruction of your self worth.
If you haven’t hit it already. If you keep on pushing yourself, you will.
Now you could keep running as fast as you can, straight into the bricks.
Or you could take just a few minutes each day. Just. For. You.
Not to whittle your waistline. Not to improve your social media status. Not to be anything, other than what you are right now.
Because there will be days that you just can’t make it to a yoga class or head to the gym.
And there will be months, years and even decades when you don’t have time for a yoga retreat somewhere exotic.
But what you do have, is 7 minutes. Right now.
To move. To breath. To hold space, for yourself.
Instead of everyone else.
So today, I invite you to create some room in your mind and your body.
To take you from hitting-the-brick-wall-of-exhaustion-and-over-giving. And return you to feeling-like-yourself-again-one-breath-at-a-time.
But before you go, I just want to remind you that you are not here to be a workhorse. Even if it feels like it at times.
Sure, there will be days you need to get sh*t done. But if you keep up this pace, 25.78 hours of the day, someone is going to miss out.
And it’s not just those closest to you.
So take a breath. Reach your arms over your head. Close your eyes. And turn inwards.
You are enough. You are enough. You are enough.
