I can still remember the day I got a yoga mat for Christmas from my dear sister-in-law, Sarah. 

She’s the best at giving gifts by the way. Always so thoughtful.

I didn’t know it quite yet, but in that moment, my entire life was about to change.

That simple yoga mat and pretty little canvas yoga mat bag….they were the start of a something very sacred. 

An invitation to a more loving relationship with myself.

Now you might be wondering, how a rolled up piece of foam could totally transform my life. 

And I’ll be honest with you. It didn’t start right away.

In fact, it took me many years to finally find my way.

The first actual class I took? I just didn’t get it.

Nope. Not even a little bit.

In those first few years I felt like I need to keep up with everyone else around me. Look like everyone else. And be like everyone else. 

Because after years of being a dancer and many more of being a girl in the 21st century….the relationship that I had with myself had slowly become tainted.

Pressure to be stick thin, perfectly placed and gracefully elegant – left me feeling like I would never be good enough.

…and those photos of women doing yoga on the cover of magazines? They made me feel like yoga wasn’t for me. 

Because let’s face it. I’m no model or gymnast.

But eventually, I found myself rolling my mat out, in a class that felt like home to me.

And when the teacher invited me to breathe, I finally knew what it felt like to be filled with life. 

She finally gave me permission to feel how I felt. 

A gift I will always remember. 

Which is why I want the same thing for you.
