Have you ever had that feeling, like something was missing from your life?

You check to see if you have your car keys. Check.
You make sure the doors are locked tightly. Done.
You open up facebook to see what’s going on. Complete.

The dishes are done. The bills are paid. The sun is still shining.

Still, it feels like something is missing. Something important.

Now don’t be alarmed. But if you’re reading this email right now, there is a good chance there is something missing.

And it’s not another app BuzzFeed quiz.

I can assure you.

So before I get ahead of myself, let’s take a step back.

As you may have noticed, I missed sending you an email last week. You see, not long after my the episode of season 3 of the podcast was released…we had some sad news that shook my family and our local community. More heartbreak. 

So I couldn’t help but step away from my computer to take some time and reflect on many of the choices we all make. Every single day.

As many of us do when we lose someone close to us.

And I realised something that changed my heart forever.

There is no future.

Now, don’t get all worked up. I’m not saying that there will never be future moments.

But the “future” we keep chasing. The somedays. The maybe when’s.

They just don’t exist.

The only moment you can guarantee is this. One. Now.

And even if you are working towards a better life, a more fulfilling tomorrow or a new and improved you.

The reality is, we only have this moment. Right. Now.

It’s how we live in this moment – not how we “think” we’ll live in the future – that creates our life.

Want to see what next year looks like? Look back.

To all the “now” moments you’ve already had.

Ten minutes ago. Two days ago. Five months ago.

How did you spend those moments?

Sure, sometimes it can feel easier to look forward to all the things we “would” or “could” change.

More time with family. Less time at work.

But if you really want to know what’s to come, look at how you’re living today.

How are you spending your precious time? Where are your using your limited energy? Where are you placing your love and attention?

Now, I’m not going to say I’m an expert. Heck. I spend more time writing, creating and dreaming of how I can help you then I do taking care of myself.

I postpone trips to see friends until the right time arrives and I can get away.

I treat my body poorly, assuring myself, that I’ll care for her when I have more energy.

I watch my life waste away in every moment I put my focus on anything other, then what’s sacred to me.

We all do it, one way or another.

Now, with all of this said. I also know that my cell phone plays a big part in that distraction.

Losing seconds, minutes and hours – even days, to Netflix or my facebook feed.

Moments that could be spent creating, dancing, learned, playing, loving, hugging, wandering, exploring, tasting, feeling, being.

But instead…we feel like we’re missing out on what could have been. Searching our phone for an answer, that never arrives.

Chasing a future, that never comes.

And missing out on a “now” that will eventually fade away.

Here’s the thing. I love social media and staying connected. There is so much to discover online.

But they are two very different worlds.

The world we watch and the world we live.

So today I’m inviting you to make some space in your life. By clearing some of the clutter that’s been keeping you distracted from what matters most.

The first step? Define what’s most important to you.

What do you want to live right NOW? How do you want to feel right NOW? Who do you want to be right NOW?

The second step? Start clearing room for that to happen.
